Sometimes, the inspiration for a painting comes from the most unexpected moments.
A few months ago, my wife and I spent a lovely afternoon in Sefton Park, Liverpool, with friends. Among them was local photographer Hayley Rushton, also known as Girl Behind the Camera 2025.
While we were there, a little Robin appeared and decided to keep us company.
For around 15 minutes, this beautiful little bird stayed close by, hopping around us while I sat with my hands outstretched, hoping it might come and take some food.
It never quite did, although it certainly kept me hopeful!
What I didn’t realise at the time was that Hayley had captured the most beautiful photograph of our little visitor.
When she sent me the image afterwards, she simply said three words.
“That’s your robin.”
And just like that, the painting had its title.
Inspired by Hayley’s photograph, I created this original painting to capture a little moment that might otherwise have been forgotten
